Dong-ahn-guh Day 47 – From arguing to respecting

My Jungbub Journal – Forty-seventh Day of Dong-ahn-guh (winter meditation retreat)

From arguing to respecting

———–

Yesterday was intense.

My yesterday journal contains 1,600 words even I deleted a lot from the original story. My monthly business blog usually has 1,200 – 1,500 words. The length of the journal shows how intense the episode was.

Anyway, the landlord called me in the afternoon. He said he appreciated my voice message. We are very nice tenants. He wanted us to stay too.

Everything ended well. I feel I understand him more. Before I sleep, I prayed to change the atmosphere in this house from blaming each other to respecting each other.

Rental Housing Market on Kauai

———–

At the same time, my wife was searching for other rental houses. We found two places in Craigslist. One was Kalaheo, the other was Kekaha. Both are one bedroom and one bathroom for $1,500 per month.

Kalaheo one rejected us because they wanted a single tenant to live there. We found out that it’s illegal to discriminate but we didn’t want to live there as starting with the legal argument with the landlord.

Kekaha one was literally a shack in the middle of a dump.

Hawaii is not a market for tenants. One of Mary’s friends who manages rental properties had to move 5 times in 3 years to settle down on this island. He has a wife and 2 kids.

In the end, we decided to stay in this house as long as we can. Moving is not a solution. When considering moving cost and another deposit, it’s better to stay here.

We decided to save money and purchase a Condo later. We need to plan for it. It will be our next big project.
